You're not alone Bruno, you're not the only four legged friend who hates fireworks, two of my Jack Russels (rather attractive ladies they are too) can't stand them either. This year I thought I would try one of those DAP diffuser thingies that the other humans have been telling me about, just to see if it helps to keep them calm. I will also be taking my own advice and keeping them shut in with the curtains drawn and the radio or television on to help muffle the sound, making sure I don't let them off the lead when walking in the evenings in case they get starled and bolt off, always keeping their idnetity discs on (and of course they are microchipped) and trying to avoid the subject when they look all startled so they don't think they are right to be so scared.

Of course if fireworks were only allowed at licensed displays for special occasions, we wouldn't need to worry so much as we would know when to expect the big bangs, as it is, prepare for scaredy cats and frightened dogs between now and the New Year, sorry mate, until legislation is changed you will just have to live with it.

I couldn't agree more Bruno, I work at an animal rescue centre and we have found that there is a problem trying to re-home any dog that happens to have some of the characterisitcs of the Pit Bull, including other Bull breeds like Mastiffs, leaving us unable to home some of the sweetest, gentlest, dogs without resrictions. Deed not breed must be the message to those making these knee-jerk policies.

Unfortunately it isn't just those with pit bull tendancies that are getting picked on either, due to inflamatory press coverage, we find more and more people giving up their family dogs without a second thought when they have given a warning growl to a toddler that has fallen on them or a child that won't leave them alone, even when they're hiding out of the way as much as they can. If you can't even tell us when you're not happy, what hope is there for you? If you can't control your children, or find a safe haven space for your dog to rest in, don't get a dog! But of course, if you do feel that you could give a responsible home to a dog (or cat) to help complete your family, go to your local rescue centre, they will have more than enough to choose from.
