What Is PPID/Cushings Disease?

Formally known as Cushing’s Disease, PPID causes a horse’s pituitary gland to work overtime. The pituitary gland ordinarily utilises hormones to control body functions, so when this normal function is disrupted, the following clinical signs can be observed;

• Decreased athletic performance
• Lethargy or sudden change in attitude
• Delayed hair coat shedding or regional hypertrichosis
• Laminitis
