Prascend is used to treat PPID (Pituitary Pars Intermedia Dysfunction), formerly known as Cushing’s Disease in horses.
Treatment with Prascend is seen to improve the quality of life in horses with PPID by reducing symptoms and decreasing the risks of associated illnesses. Prascend contains Pergolide which is a long-acting dopamine receptor agonist. Prascend stimulates the dopamine receptors in the horses pituitary gland and reduces the hormone levels that cause many clinical signs of Cushing’s/PPID.
Prascend is a veterinary prescription-only medication (POM-V) but can be ordered online with Vetscriptions, saving you 40%! Just download the Vetscriptions prescription form here and request that your vet fill it out. You can then upload it with your order.
What Is PPID/Cushings Disease?
Formally known as Cushing’s Disease, PPID causes a horse’s pituitary gland to work overtime. The pituitary gland ordinarily utilises hormones to control body functions, so when this normal function is disrupted, the following clinical signs can be observed;
- Decreased athletic performance
- Lethargy or sudden change in attitude
- Delayed hair coat shedding or regional hypertrichosis
