Onsior for Dogs is a non-steriodal anti-inflammatory medication which helps to reduce fever, pain and inflammation.
The active ingredient in Onsior is Robenacoxib. It is part of the coxib class of non-steriodal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) which primarily helps with the treatment of pain and inflammation associated with osteo-arthritis in dogs.
What is Osteo-arthritis? Osteo-arthritis is a term which refers to a form of chronic joint inflammation caused by deterioration of joint cartilage. This can also be known as degenerative joint disease which is the permanent deterioration of the cartilage surrounding the joints. Older dogs are at higher risk of developing this condition.
They are supplied in individual 5mg, 10mg, 20mg and 40mg tablets or packs of 28. They are a round, beige tablet flavoured with artificial beef to make administration easier but most dogs will voluntarily take this medication.
How many tablets does my dog need? The recommended dose of Onsior is 1mg per kg bodyweight daily (with a range of 1-2mg per kg). For example:
2.5-5kg - 1x 5mg tablet
5-10kg - 1x 10mg tablet
10-20kg - 1x20mg tablet
20kg-40kg - 1x 40mg
40kg+ - 2 x 40mg
It is advised to issue Onsior at the same time every day.
Do not administer with food. Studies have shown that giving Robenacoxib without food or at least 30 minutes before or after food had better efficacy.
Do not divide or break tablets.
Wash hands after handling medication.
